Freelance Architectural Design

Around January of 2018 when a former co-employee approached me. To cut the long story short, I was offered a freelance architectural design design job… I accepted. It took me some time to finish because the requesting party change his mind on some details in many instances.

Now it is halfway finish and I saw how my drawing slowly but surely turned into reality. I did not just satisfy my client, I also satisfy the building permit approving city officer. I guess my background in advertising design and corporate engineering became very useful because my design was obviously more clear and detailed compare to what other licensed architects are doing, And having a teachable attitude somehow help me improve my woI rk.

I did all the Title Block inclusive of structural, electrical, plumbing and sanitary plan. And it did not end there. It pass through evaluation, approval and fees to be paid. Below photos shows that the drawing became a reality. Believe it or not, I was even ask to report daily for months for the construction and supplies supervision.

Incidentally, I got the attention of the Engineer owner. He gave me two more projects that I am both finishing at the moment. It is supposedly finish already but the owner has change his directions on the plan so revisions are done once in a while.

Philippine Papaya for Global Village

There are currently seven (7) commercial varieties of papaya sold for human consumption in the Philippines:

Solo
Cavite Special
Morado
Sinta
Cariñosa
Red Lady
Red Royale

The “solo” variety is the typical for export. The solo papaya is a smaller variety compared to other papayas. The skin of the solo papaya is thin and yellow. The orange flesh of the solo papaya is deliciously sweet. There are small black seeds in the middle of the fruit. It was named ‘Solo’ in 1919 and by 1936 was the only commercial papaya in Hawaii. ‘Solo’ produces no male plants; just female (with round, shallowly furrowed fruits) and bisexual (with pear-shaped fruits) in equal proportions. The fruits weigh 1.1 to 2.2 lbs (1/2-1 kg) and are of excellent quality. When the fruit is fully ripe the thin skin is orange-yellow and the flesh golden-orange and very sweet.

The peduncle (meaning: stalk bearing a flower or fruit, or the main stalk of an inflorescence), if present, should not exceed a length of 3cm.

I could not forget the feedback I got from one of my importers when they move to other countries because of price difference. I was told that the end buyers themselves are complaining when he did that due to obvious reason ….

“bananas from other exporting countries doesn’t taste good as Philippine bananas.” It’s a fact and you can compare it yourself. The genuine Class A Philippine Cavendish Bananas taste naturally sweet and delicious to the last bite. And it is a healthy food for your body. But yes, it should be genuine Class A because scammers and cheaters are everywhere so you should deal only with reputable exporters and traders.

My importers through he could earn more when he bought from other countries because they offer cheaper. He learned his lesson from actual experience as he end up in losses.

Cavendish Banana Plantation in Davao region Philippines alone is as far as the eye can see. One week is not enough to tour and inspect the plantation area as it is actually bigger than a small country like Singapore. It is so huge and you need a trustworthy contact to lead you where are the safe pest-free source and who are the unreliable. The plantation is farther than what your eye can see as it reaches to other region and provinces (e.g. Cotabato, General Santos, Bukidnon, other provinces of Mindanao). But the center of the center is Davao.
