Ironically

I am in Tagaytay City Philippine right now and  I was surprised to see tourists all over the place.  Come to think of it… many of them are East and South East Asian speaking in Chinese language.   I was  just surprised because they look unbothered and unaffected from the negative news and publicity Philippines is getting from countries as China, Australia, etc.

No offense to the affected.  Of course, we Filipinos are saddened and sympathize with the concerned.  It’s just that life must go on, though both parties are searching for justice and credible investigation is in progress.

I know how hard it is to forgive at this point.  But hope this could lead to cooperation on how to better facilitate incidents as the painful hostage crisis that happened; and granting of tools or gadgets for better counter crimes and counter terrorism.

If you are a tourist wishing to visit the Philippines or would want to acquire properties (for business or residential), I will be gladly assist you if you want.  You can e-mail me directly at denissalvatierra@yahoo.com

Leaking Deepwater Horizon Rig Reality

Politicians and environmentalists seem to have different views and estimates of the oil flow from the leaking Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico.  See for yourself first hand what is really happening through below youtube videos.

Plane Crashed in Tuolumne County

Another plane crashed in U.S.A., just this Friday night near Pine Mountain Lake Airport in Tuolumne County.  As per reports, FAA officials believed 2 people was on board and believed to have died after the plane crashed.  The plane was described as Piper Saratoga.  It was destroyed when it crushed.

Nearby residents heard a loud engine noice and a big “thud” sound.  Afterwards, debris were seen where it crashed.

Groveland is about 25 miles south of Yosemite National Park.

Another Aftershock in Haiti – 6.2

Haiti has been hit again by another earthquake aftershock measured 6.1 on the Richter scale and was centered about 59 km north-east of Port-au-Prince.  Although there was no threat of tsunami as it was far enough inland, the traumatized people of Haiti again was distress.

The aftershock was felt on around 6:00pm ET.  It again caused panic and disturbance.   As per report,  people fled on their buildings with fear that it could collapse as well.  So far no major damages was reported.

According the US Geological Survey said that the aftershock that just happened are less destructive than the major earthquake that struck a week ago.  The USGS says there are roughly 132 earthquakes a year with a magnitude between 6 and 6.9 and just 17 between 7 and 7.9 and one, on average, of 8.0 or greater. On Monday, a 6.0 quake shook Guatemala. While a 6.1 magnitude earthquake sounds almost as strong as a 7.0 earthquake, the difference of the destructive power between the two is greater than an order of magnitude.

Deal with the Devil

People are not happy with Pat Robertson’s latest pronoucement as seen on their comments over youtube.  Not a single person commented positively.

But what exactly did he mean?

Allow me to analyze the context of Pat’s message and its relevance to current situation.  First, let me clarify the “pact of the devil” thing.   This has not represented in the Bible nor in any Christian teachings.  Patt Robertson only utter his know how on Haiti’s historical accounts during its liberation from French colonialization (I just do not know if he got it from historical books or from an urban legend).  In America, they say it’s freedom of expression and it is Pat’s views in a different perspective.  It’s just that viewers and readers are also free to comment.  I say, it’s up to us to investigate.  It won’t hurt us if we read to know the truth.  If I may suggesst, hope National Geographic would made an investigative feature presentation on this subject as what they did to phyramids and other historical mysteries.  Hope I won’t get violent reaction on this suggestion.

Negative comments were obviosly because of the timing of Pat’s pronouncement.  I guess, people were still overwhelmed by their sympathy to what had happened to Haiti.   They may think that such comments is uncalled for, as many these days are more concerned on how to help.  Nonetheless, viewers may not noticed the context on Pat’s message as he was actually discussing the rebuilding possibilitiy.   It was not noticed  whom Pat was  interviewing…  he was interviewing the man from “Operation Blessing.”  OB is a department of 700 Club where Pat is its founder.  It is a relief giving arm of the 700 Club all over the world, especially during times of calamity and distress.  In the Philippines, Operation Blessing’s presence and sincerity are always available when people are in need of their support.

Personal View:

This blog recorgnized the efforts and sacrifices of of the NGO and groups/org and their volunteers, especially during such time as this.

Historically, true Christians (not the twisted ones) were the pioneers to relief giving and founder of most known NGO since time in memorial.  True Christian were seen in the forefront of service even in the middle of war.  They are the unrecognized salt and light to this world we live in.  Their efforts are unparalleled.   They are the initiator relief giving, rescue and medical mission, counter oppression, inhuman political practices, liberators of persecuted minorities (like the african american), founder of progressive education, inventions and anti war policies.  I guess I am also entitled to my freedom of expression. 🙂

FYI. Red Cross and other known NGO was founded by Christians.

7.0-magnitude Earthquake hits Haiti

Haiti Presidential Palace before the earthquake

Strong earthquake smashed a portion of Haiti, causing extensive damages including the presidential palace, cathedrals, buildings and various communication facilities.   Further details are still to be confirmed as per reports of widespread casualties.

photo excerpt from yahoo news images

There were reports that the ground shook for more than a minute, and was followed by three aftershocks measuring 5.9, 5.5 and 5.1 on the moment magnitude scale hit.  Image shows the location of the quake.

Besides being a poort nation, Haiti has been recently devasted by a series natural and man made:   Four big storms, Tense political standoff, etc. Seventy percent of Haiti’s population lives on less than two dollars per day and half of its 8.5 million people are unemployed.

Earthquake Northern California

Off the shore of Northern California has been hit by a 6.5-magnitude earthquake. Although no major casualties were reported, probably about 28,000 customers were left without power Saturday evening, most of them in Humboldt County,  said Jeff Smith, spokesman for Pacific Gas and Electric Co.  But presumably around a dozen aftershocks followed, the strongest at 4.5 magnitude.

The quake, which ran about 13.5 miles deep, hit offshore at 4:27 p.m. (7:27 p.m. ET) Saturday, about 33 miles from the coastal city of Eureka, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Earthquake in Solomon Islands

Part of Solomon Islands suffered from a series of powerful earthquakes last Monday that resulted to a tsunami that measured up to 10 feet (3 metres) high.  One village was reported damaged and somehow flattened.  There were tremors and after-shocks but the strongest of which measured 7.2 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre of the earthquakes is from a remote island.  One earthquake sent a tsunami crashing into the shores of Rendova Island and nearby Tetepare Island about 9:30 a.m. local time on Monday. Eight other quakes greater than magnitude 5.0 have rocked the region since.

According to Loti Yates (Disaster Management Official), at least 16 houses were destroyed and 32 damaged in Baniata village on Rendova, an island around 190 miles (300 km) from the capital Honiara, where around 3,600 people live.
