Art with a Heart

I admire how the new Philippine government strive to clean the mess of the past.  I believe people will admire them the most if they simultaneously allow Filipino culture be expressed again in landscapes, architecture, billboards, malls, movies, shopping, festivities, agriculture, manufacturing and so on and so forth.  This is the essence of People Power — and the people at this point only awaits to be empowered by their government.  If you can read between the lines, the silent majority and the new breed of Filipinos are just waiting to be utilized.

In the Philippines, preparation for the coming Christmas season is I think one of the best time to promote moral and cultural programs for national building. Filipinos start to observe as early as first day of September.  Filipinos calls it the “ber” months.  Unlike in other countries, Christmas carols are already played in the airwaves and that adds to the inspiration.  The mall owners knew how to exploit the emotion of the people so they go with the flow.  Hope our present leaders  will also use this opportunity to both motivate and mobilize many without spending much.  Filipinos themselves will surely contribute in the preparation and cultural propagation through utilization of arts, craftsmanship and voluntarism.  Below are some of the highly acclaimed Giant Christmas Lanterns showcase every December from Christmas Capital of the Philippines — Pampanga shown in my own art form:

Hope the government and private sector collaborate or individually sponsor those who can promote Filipino culture incorporate to Christmas spirit.  A single giant lantern on display alone can attract more tourist and provide income opportunity for small businesses.  How much more if a bigger place is decorated or transformed to a viewable display as what was done in the past at Policarpio Street in Mandaluyong City.  You need not consult a genius to figure this out.  Hope the Giant Christmas Lanterns be also displayed on major cities, streets, airports, terminals and places we all love them to be seen.  It need not be expensive.  Craftsmen and Artists only needs funder or supporter.

May the Filipino values and culture also complete in the billboard and public arena The public and private sectors should support.

Not-the-Usual Valentine Ideas for Dummies

For a change, you can try conceptualizing the not-the-usual thing for your valentine date.

The key word is “plan” ahead.  To some people as my self, ideas come into my mind while I am on my way to work or after office while on my way home.  We may be different.  It doesn’t matter as long as you plan in advance.    Below are some common suggestions (the best is something you think and plan yourself because no one knows how to please your partner better than you):

  1. Better to think of a “tesear” type of gift before your valentine’s date.  One suggestion is to give her a romantic novel as Nicholas Sparks pocketbook or the like… a day before your date.
  2. Choose a not-the-usual venue where you plan to dine or whatever you are planning to do that evening.  It’s up to you if you want to do it in the comfort of your home or somewhere different.  It need not be expensive and extravagant, though I see nothing wrong about it if you can afford.
  3. Better to exert some effort like you yourself will cook, write a poem… you think what is the best thing to do (conceptualize).
  4. Expect heavy traffic in most commercial areas during that day, so better plan your route.  It’s up to you if you want to celebrate on the 14th or do it before/after.
  5. There are romantic secrets your partner wishes you knew.  Most partners are not comfortable telling it so you better find his/her secrets.
  6. Appreciate and thank your partner for all the thing he/she has done for you and the relationship.  Pray for her.
  7. Make her smile.  Make her laugh.
  8. Give a not-the-usual gift.   Same with what I said at number 2, It need not be expensive and extravagant, though I see nothing wrong about it if you can afford.
  9. Flowers and chocolates are still effective but you can give it in a more creative manner, for a change.

10.  There’s more but you should research it yourself before the said date.  You can also learn from other suggestions but analyze if it fits in your relationship.

Please do not depend too much on what you can get from the internet, Hollywood movies or articles.  You know your partner and your relationship better so plan what you think is best for your relationship.  Pray for wisdom and use your common sense.

Dear John knocks Avatar

Who would have thought that Dear John would have beaten Avatar from the first chart? There were reports from Sony Pictures distributor that “Dear John” made a $32.4 million opening in the U.S. and Canada, against Avatar who only made $23.6 million.

Records shows that “Dear John” was the biggest debut for a movie and it overtake “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds,” which started with $31.1 million in 2008.
