Davao Philippines’Cavendish Bananas is known deliciously sweet.

  • Philippine is now the 2nd Largest Exporter of Bananas in the world.
  • The majority of these shipments are destined for the growing regional markets of China, the Middle East and, to a lesser extent, Russia to satisfy their demand for fresh produce
  • Exports of Philippine bananas for the last quarter of this year are expected to rise following China’s lifting of restrictions on Philippine exports early this month.
  • Below are the 15 countries that accounted for the highest dollar value worth of bananas exported from the Philippines during 2015:
  1. Japan: US$176.9 million (40.2% of total bananas imports)
  2. China: $109.2 million (24.8%)
  3. South Korea: $51.6 million (11.7%)
  4. Iran: $33.8 million (7.7%)
  5. United Arab Emirates: $19.2 million (4.4%)
  6. Saudi Arabia: $12.9 million (2.9%)
  7. Kuwait: $8.7 million (2%)
  8. New Zealand: $6.5 million (1.5%)
  9. Hong Kong: $5.2 million (1.2%)
  10. Singapore: $5.1 million (1.2%)
  11. Malaysia: $2.3 million (0.5%)
  12. Taiwan: $2.1 million (0.5%)
  13. North Korea: $1.7 million (0.4%)
  14. Bahrain: $1.1 million (0.2%)
  15. Qatar: $912,000 (0.2%)
  • Among the above countries, the fastest-growing consumers of Philippine bananas exports since 2011 were: Bahrain (up 822.2% in value), Saudi Arabia (up 638.1%), Malaysia (up 312.3%) and Kuwait (up 195.4%).Production system ranges from backyard to highly integrated operation with the latter catering to the export market.
  • Weak demand in the EU.
  • Total import of fruit by the Philippines from 2008 till 2013. The highest volume of imports occurred in 2012 reaching 240,477MT while the lowest was in 2008 to 187,265MT. The average annual growth rate was 3.68% during this time period.
  • Philippine farms produced a total of 8.65m tonnes of bananas valued at P117.15bn ($2.6bn) in 2013, down from a peak of 9.23m tonnes worth P108.13bn ($2.4bn) the previous year, according to PSA data. Concerted efforts over the past two decades to expand banana production have led to the commodity becoming the country’s most valuable crop as well as its most profitable agricultural export.
  • The past years, the yield dramatically been reduced due to destruction brought about by the strong typhoons that hit the country particularly the major producing areas in Mindanao. Another calamity was the most recent “El Nino.”  Nevertheless, these are not typical and Mindanao is not a typhoon belt.
  • Overall, the average annual growth rate was 0.26% and 16%, respectively for production and area for the six-year time period.
  • The farms are generally small in size (1-5 ha) with minimal care resulting to low yield.
  • Big farms are typically managed by Cooperatives, Organizations and Investment Companies

Purpose Driven Christmas Gift

Merry Christmas!

I went to Davao Philippines last October 19 til December 1, 2011 per request of a foreign client to facilitate and monitor a Cavedish Banana export deal.  The region is so rich in fruits, sea foods, mining mineral and other natural resources.  I stayed for more than a month hoping that I could brought income to my wife enough to finance her breast cancer treatment and give her a happy Christmas celebration.  Sadly, I got home bitter bankrupt because my chosen supplier got obsessed with the down payment and cheated me and my client by loading reject bananas instead of Class A export quality.  To make the story short, I went home broke with tons of debts because my client stop the sending of support.
I am still into Cavendish Banana Export but I now partner with new reliable cooperative-supplier.  But I could not believed that part of the region where I came was destroyed and devastated by a typhoon that passed through after I leave the place.  I was very  thankful because I am no longer in the island when the storm devastated the region.  In the contrary, I and my wife felt pity and sympathetic as large part of the region was unimaginably destroyed in a matter of hours.  You may have seen it on the news… hundreds have died helplessly and the residential and commercial areas have been wiped away by flash flood.

For Christmas sake… pls donate whatever support you can give.   Definitely I am going back but this time I hope I could bring donations with your support, to reach out to the affected .  As always, I will partner with local a church and non-governmental organization as I won’t pretend that I can make it on my own.  My skills in business plan and feasibility study, and my more than 15 years experience in the corporate sector including my voluntary experience in community service and rebuilding since 1986 will be very useful.   I could also design cheap convenient housing structure and my Civil Engineer and contractor brothers can assist (Photos and details of my community service and helping the less fortunate experience are available upon request).  Rest assured that I will provide accounting and reports with photos.

Pls click to link below if you want to help through reliable trustworthy Foundations…

or through me through direct support to communities with my skills in rebuilding through creation of jobs and community service…

Before the recent typhoon named, “Sendong”

(The author of this post does not claim ownership to the photos)

in a matter of hours and a day after the storm…

Police use a rubber boat to evacuate residents from flooded regions
Rescuers paddle their boat to search for survivors after Typhoon Washi
Thousands of people have been homeless by the severe storm which leaves 625 people dead and hundreds missing
Philippine Red Cross said most victims of the disaster are women and children

I no longer desire extravagant Christmas celebration.  But if I receive donations, I will be delighted to be a channel through rebuilding the devastated communities within my reach.
You won’t believe how a simple kind of kindness would change lives and God will bless you for reaching out.

Peculiar Christmas gift

I can’t forget when one of my less fortunate co-employee told me how he wanted his daughter to have a guitar and Christian songs. Surprisingly, he passed away days later. While others brought flowers and money to his wake, I came with a guitar and a few Christian songs recorded. I have not uttered encouraging words or Bible verses but action truly speaks louder than words. It may not happen to most of us but I realized that the best Christmas gift is not wrapped items or money to well-off peers and family member. The best gift is help and hope to someone who could not even repay us out of desperation and poverty.

Hope this Christmas I could be a blessing to a cancer patients.

Free Vitamin A From Sight and Life Switzerland

Below was the latest package I received from Sight and Life Switzerland… all I can say is thank you Sight and Life.

– ICWL Sampaguita-Shelterville Congregation

– ICWL Malabon Outreach

– ICWL Mindoro Outreach

– A Church in Bataan

I already coordinated that I need to report with photos.  These vitamins are intentionally for kids, to fight malnutrition and sight problems.   I also reiterated that it should be distributed and facilitated by a licensed credible Medical practitioner  either through community health center through their congregation they serve.

The last package I received last January (this year), I channeled them  through Tagaytay City Hall’s Medical Officers and Staff as shown below…

Hope I can also get donors of medicines and support for breast ailment/cancer from global NGO as many Filipinas have this ailment (including my wife) and the medicine costs are too much to bear for ordinary citizen.

True Christmas Date

Basing from Biblical naration of the travel of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, the first Christmas or the birth of Jesus Christ obviously could not happen during the winter season or on December.  The couple surely won’t survive the cold wheather if they travelled on the period.  Bible Scholars believed it happened during spring season.

There were even other dates for other types of believers as in Russia – January 6.

Historical reference in the declaration of December 25 as birth of Christ is to be found in the Chronography of 354, an illuminated manuscript compiled in Rome in 354.  Early Christians celebrated Christmas every January 6, although this festival emphasized celebration of the baptism of Jesus.  Deeper study shows that Christmas was actually a politcal moved with a purpose during Constantinople’s reign in 379 and to Antioch in about 380.  It was promoted in the Christian East as part of the revival of Catholicism following the death of the pro-Arian Emperor Valens at the Battle of Adrianople in 378. The feast disappeared after Gregory of Nazianzus resigned as bishop in 381, although it was reintroduced by John Chrysostom in about 400.  Part reference to this information is Wikipedia.

The date of birth of Christ is no longer that important as the Bible is more focus on the meaning of Christmas.  Although, I cannot deny that still there are concervatives on this issue.  What is more important to many is Christ is being known and preached in God’ suttle way, even to the nations who don’t believe in God and the Bible is not permitted.

May you share your blessing this Christmas!

To many, Christmas is shopping or homecoming or merry making.

I see no wrong in it if you want to enjoy your holidays! Why not? Go ahead!  But may you also share your blessing, especially to the less fortunate kids as seen in the video.

A little act of kindness can transform children’s lives.  Kindly support me as I reach them.

Blogging and Commodity Trading are what I do for my self, but organizing projects for the less fortunates is how I give back. I am in support of the kids and youth since 1996.

You can send you donations either through parcel (for food or in kind) or through Paypal and Western Money Union if in a form of money.  Proof of gift to the less fortunate will be given.  A donation of $1 is already equivalent to a 1 kg rice with canned sardines (good for 1 day for 1 small family).

PayPal

Or you can tell me where would you want it be used (e.g. education, toys, etc.)

But if more donations are gathered, I may use it to establish a formal community service center where we can host projects for development, livelihood, children/elderly care, etc. for long term benefits.

I my self is donating and in coordination with local churches and NGO.

If you prefer to donate in kind, you may send it through FedEx, DHL, or the like at…

Thank you very much and Merry Christmas to you!

I am actually in support of the kids, youth, the elderly and community service since 1991 as per below photos.

The most recent I facilitated were donations of umbrellas, grocery items for the Pastors and Elderly workers, and funding for the improvement of Children’s Church c/o In Christ We Live Family Christian Center (small church in the Philippines — within Talipapa Novaliches municipality).

My previous initiated projects in support of the community and less fortunate:

Former Youth

Above photo are the youth and teens I previously supported (I’m in the middle).

Most of them became professionals and are now young adults.

They followed me since their elementary years and they continued up to now.

Some of them are the kids I used to motivate per below photo.

Many continued what I started but still doing what I do best – support the community and the less fortunate within my reach.
