A new power house cast version of “We Are the World” was recorded for the benefit of earthquake victims in Haiti. The previous was 25 years ago to Aid Africa (the late Michael Jackson compose the song with Lionel Richie).
The lates version will feature musical stars such as Akon, Jason Mraz, Bono, Wyclef Jean, Carlos Santana, Enrique Iglesias, Usher, Toni Braxton and Lady Gaga. The new group will used the same studio as where the former cast recorded the original song (A&M complex in Hollywood). Quincy Jones will also be there. Incidentally, he was the original producer.
Some of the big names then were Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Bruce Springsteen, Diana Ross, Bob Dylan and Cyndi Lauper. Other type celebrities then also support the cause (not limited to singers).
The trend was actually set by Band Aid/Live Aid (Do they know it’s Christmas – Feed the World). USA for Africa (We are the World) then followed by various singers/musicians in many countries (either for the benefit of Africa then or a different cause they were supporting).
